WSA/WNES host Sakai City representatives - 29 July 2015

As part of the Sakai Wellington Educational Exchange (SWEE) 2015, WSA and Wellington Nakano Education Society (WNES) co-hosted Sakai City council staff and other Sakai City official representatives for dinner and discussion. It was a great opportunity to meet the new WSA liaison within Sakai City Council and discuss upcoming WSA projects.

Sakai Wellington Educational Exchange 2015

For just over 20 years, Wellington and Sakai have been sister cities. And for 20 years, the Wellington Nakano Educational Society (see WNES on Facebook) has been exchanging young secondary school students between schools and families here and in Sakai. Over this time 400 students have participated in the programme.

Japan Society of Wellington 55th Anniversary dinner - 11 August 2015

A successfull event, with marvellous food. Beautiful Japanese textile art decorations were provided by Debbie Donnelly (Programme Manager of Visual Arts and Design at Whitireia) and her team. Special Japanese style menu was designed by Win Lertpisitkul from Whitireia.

There were 25 guests from Japan Society, Wellington Sakai Association and Japan Information and Culture Centre (JICC), speakers from society past events including current WSA member and Japan Society past President Melda Townsley, and lots of friends and relatives. Tables were full and good time was had by all. Many thanks to Steve Logan and the Logan Brown Head Chef Shaun Clouston for extraordinary performance.

Sakai host family pays Wellington's 2010 Senshu runner a visit

In 2010 Christine Jones was the Ambassador for Wellington at the Senshu International City Marathon in Sakai, Japan. Since then Christine has been keeping in regular contact with her host family, exchanging cards, gifts and emails. After years of talking about it finally Tamie (the mother) and Maya (the daughter) recently came to stay with Christine's family. They were in NZ for six nights, during which time Christine took them to Taupo for two nights where they had an excellent time together.
