Following on from the successful event held in 2015, Wellington Sakai Association (WSA) and JETAA Wellington are hosting a Japanese bento (lunch box) making workshop this August! Come along and learn how to make some impressive looking lunches.
In the workshop you will learn how to prepare some common bento dishes as well as get some great recipe ideas. Key items to build your bento will be brought to you thanks to TATSUHI, arguably one of the best Japanese restaurants in town. The focus will be decorative bento aka "deco-ben" with an emphasis on springtime and Sakai – we hope to make Zabaeko-kun (Sakai City mascot) onigiri (rice balls).
The event will be free for WSA and JETaa members, with a charge (TBC) for non-members.
Location - the mezzanine floor room of the Central Wellington library, 65 Victoria St.
Space is limited to 30 max - so please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org
Following this class, in September once the cherry trees donated by Sakai City Council are in bloom, we will hold a cherry blossom viewing picnic, with a bento making competition! Best bentos will win some bento boxes sent from Japan.
