Thinking to come to the WSA cherry blossom picnic in September and don't know what to make? Fear not! WSA is holding a Japanese bento (lunch box) class to inspire you!
Japanese bento are famous (see http://www.cookingcute.com/history_of_bento.htm) - no sandwiches and soft apples here! Some schools in Japan have instigated a 'no karaben' rule to stop competitive mothers from spending hours and hours on their children's lunchboxes! Never fear, we're just going to have a bit of fun learning about bento and our Japanese sister-city Sakai.
The class will teach some easy-to-prepare common bento dishes as well as providing recipes!
Cost is $5 for members, and $10 for non-members which includes a Japanese bento box to take your bento home in! (or you can eat it there and then, we won't judge).
The cherry blossom picnic in September (date TBC, pending blossoms!) will include a prize for best bento, so come along and hone your Japanese lunch box preparation skills!
Need more motivation? Check out some creative and interesting bento boxes here!
RSVP to mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org by September 1st as spaces are limited.
